Men's Basketball Defeats Roadrunners in Conference Matchup

Clifton Forge, VA - Using another solid second half, the Emory Oxford men's basketball team leaves Virginia with another win against Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. The Eagles won 69-55 and improved to 7-9, including 2-4 in conference play. The Roadrunners drop to 10-8 and 0-5 in the conference. 

Four Eagles scored in double figures, with sophomore Kabir Bergin leading the way again with 15 points and nine rebounds. Classmate JT Laws scored a career-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Fellow sophomore Dante Conley-Leonardi had 11 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman Sean Osei dished out a team-high six assists and scored 11 points along the way. 

The Eagles jumped to an early lead in the opening half going up 15-6 and extending that lead to 26-11. However, the Eagles went cold and the Roadrunners used a 15-2 run to bring the score to 28-26. Emory Oxford eventually went into halftime only up by four points.

The Eagles steadily built their lead in the second half and were up by ten points at the 11:48 mark. They kept this lead the rest of the game and won by fourteen. The Eagles used a balance of good defense and free throws in the second half, holding the Roadrunners to 31% (10-of-32) from the field while shooting 14-of-19 from the charity stripe. Dabney was held to 12 free throws the entire game, all coming in the second half and only converted on half the attempts.

The Eagles head home to face Birmingham Southern JV on Tuesday, January 25th at 8:00 pm. As a reminder, no fans will be permitted to attend the contest in Williams Gym as Emory is still operating under an orange condition.
