Men's basketball geared up to start 2023-24 campaign

The Oxford College of Emory University men's basketball team is set to start a new season after finishing up their exhibition season last Wednesday. 

The Eagles return six players from last year's squad and welcome four incoming first year players. Emory Oxford has named sophomores Anthony Vargas (Woodland Park, New Jersey) as team captain and Andrew Anton (Jacksonville, Florida) as co-captain.

Sophomores Zuri Greene (Carrolton, Georgia) and Ryan Kim (Jericho, New York) were honored for preseason all-region.

Greene played in 24 games last season, averaging 5.3 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game. He has improved his all-around game and is looking forward to a fantastic season. Kim played in all 29 games last season, averaging 6.2 points per game and 1.1 assists per game. He scored a career-high 32 points versus the LaGrange College Reserve Squad. Kim is a natural scorer and heady ball player.

Vargas is looking to have a breakout season and is a natural leader. He played in 21 games last season. Anton played in 16 games last season. He is the floor general and expected to be a key competent in the team's success. Sophomore Joshua Kim (Glendale, California) will look to have a more significant role this season after having a solid preseason. Sophomore Devin Shu (Taipei, Taiwan) is a solid guard that has worked hard to improve his game.  

The Eagles have several newcomers that will be called into action. Daniel Shin, a freshman guard from Irvine, California, has shown a lot of potential in the preseason and looks to be a major contributor. Everett Smith, a freshman shooting guard from Saratoga Springs, New York; Michael Hoppner, a freshman wing player from San Jose, California; and Aidan Chung, a freshman forward from Irvine, California, are the other newcomers for Emory Oxford.

Emory Oxford opens up with Georgia Highlands Reserve Squad at home on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the friendly confines of William Gym. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
