The Oxford College of Emory University men's basketball team is set to start a new season after finishing up their exhibition season last Friday. They will open its season on Monday, Nov. 4 versus Reinhardt University JV on the road at 8 p.m. The first home game is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. versus Piedmont University JV in Williams Gym.
The Eagles return two players from last year's squad and welcome ten incoming first year players. Emory Oxford has named sophomore Aidan Chung (Irvine, California) as team captain and first-year Jason Kim (Jericho, New York) as co-captain.
"We have a very young and inexperienced team but I am excited to start the season," commented Head Coach Roderick Stubbs. "Pre-season has been a huge learning curve for the squad, and I have seen a lot of improvement."
The Eagles return captain Chung, who is recovering for a preseason injury, and Mike Hoppner (San Jose, California), a defensive specialist and solid wing player.
The Eagles have ten newcomers that will be called into action. Leo Etah (Marietta, Georgia) has shown a lot of potential in the preseason and looks to be a major contributor. Etah is a very versatile player for the Eagles. Ved Desai (Chantilly, Virginia), small forward, will be a mismatch problem for a lot of teams this year with his inside/outside game; Kim, point guard, is a natural floor general that can score and sees the floor well; Adeniyi Ogunlana (Missouri City, Texas), shooting guard, is a solid on the ball defender, another natural leader with great range on his jump shot; Nicholas Yatros (Holmes Beach, Florida), center, has a strong post presence with a soft touch and can be a threat from the outside; Tyler Pavlik (Clarendon Hills, Illinois) is a shooting guard with a nice shooting form; Samuel Chin (Crofton, Maryland) is a shooting guard that is a solid threat from the three. Leonardo Curatolo (Seattle, Washington), post player; Abdul Saidi (Bainbridge Island, Washington), point guard and Daniel Majzoub (Oak Brook, Illinois), small forward/post, round out a very talented group of newcomers.
Come out and support your Eagles!
