Men's basketball wins home opener 87-84 in overtime

Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team won a thrilling game 87-84 over visiting Piedmont University JV in overtime.

Piedmont led for nearly the entire game, including a seven point lead at halftime. 

With two minutes remaining in the second half, the Eagles were down by 10 points. Emory Oxford played strong defense to keep Piedmont from scoring. After free throws from first-years Ved Desai and Jason Kim, plus a three-pointer from Kim, the Eagles found themselves down by only four with a minute remaining.

First-year Sam Chin took a charge on Piedmont's half of the court, allowing the Eagles to get possession of the ball. With 18 seconds left, Chin was fouled while attempting a three-pointer, making all three shots to tie the game.

The Eagles held an early lead in overtime before Piedmont came back to tie. With less than five seconds remaining, Desai passed the ball to first-year Tyler Pavlik, who hit a three-pointer to win the game for the Eagles.

First-year Leo Etah led the Eagles with 24 points and 17 rebounds. First-year Adeniyi Ogunlana had 18 points. Kim and Desai both had 13 points for Emory Oxford.

The Eagles are now 2-1 this season.

Emory Oxford next faces Emmanuel University JV at home on Thursday, Nov. 14. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
