Men's basketball wins twice during Dennis Spruell Classic

Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team hosted the 13th annual Dennis Spruell Basketball Classic and earned two wins. The classic featured the Eagles, Action Sports Academy, Southern Basketball Academy and Georgia Christian College.

The Eagles faced Southern Basketball Academy in the second game on Friday. They had a lead early in the first half and kept it for the rest of the game, ending with a 95-61 victory. Emory Oxford led by 17 points at the half. 

Five first-year Eagles had double digit points. Leo Etah (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Ved Desai (18 points, 15 rebounds) both had double-doubles and led Emory Oxford in scoring. Adeniyi Ogunlana, Sam Chin and Tyler Pavlik scored 15, 14 and 11 points, respectively. Ogunlana also made four three-pointers. First-year Jason Kim had 11 assists.

In the first game, Georgia Christian College defeated Action Sports Academy.

On Saturday, the Eagles found themselves down 6-0 early in the game against Action Sports Academy. Desai scored the first four points for Emory Oxford and Chin scored two after to tie the game. After some back and forth at the beginning of the half, the Eagles gained a lead and kept it for the rest of the game, winning 80-52.

Desai and Etah had another big game for Emory Oxford. Desai had a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Etah scored 22 points and had seven rebounds. Pavlik had 14 points, including three three-pointers. He also had six rebounds.

The Eagles are now 8-8 this season. The team scored the most points of the season (95) during the classic and allowed the least amount of points (52).

Emory Oxford's next game will be on the road against Patrick & Henry Community College on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
